The 2013 release YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI opened very well in repeat runs. The film should do well as its that film for the college going youth crowd and this zone coupled with the lower ticket rates has has worked well in repeats. There was a huge KARAN ARJUN repeat run which did not do well as its for the masses in the circuits and that audience is not watching re runs.
YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI is biggest hit in the love story genre of the last 20 years if we exclude KABIR SINGH as that is rarity in the multiplex era which is a love story with wider appeal in the Hindi belts. The repeat run of the film may well be bigger than all the other love stories which have seen success in repeats post the pandemic.
BABY JOHN has done very poor business of 32 crore nett in the first week and collections came down heavily after the holiday period to below 1 crore nett. This 32 crore nett number has also come mainly due to the first day which is around 33% of its extended first week. The drop on day two sealed the fate of the film and there was no coming back.
There will not be much more coming now for the film. The weekend may add a little but after that it will be the end for the film. The 40 crore nett number is a tough ask after the big drop on Thursday.
The collections of BABY JOHN till date are as follows.
Wednesday - 10,75,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,15,00,000 apprx
Friday - 3,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 3,75,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 32,15,00,000 apprx

BABY JOHN had a poor weekend as it picked up only 26 crore nett over its five day weekend joining a long list of non performers on holidays post pandemic. The film got an opening day number due to the holiday but the film went downhill from there. If its a holiday, the film had to record a good number and not so so especially if the film is in the action genre.
The film came down to low levels on the second day itself and that was it for the film. The risk of a midweek release is always that if it the public rejects, then it hardly survives till the real weekend and this has happened here.
BABY JOHN started to lose shows after the first day with the beneficiary being a dubbed film from South called MARCO. This film was released last week and grossed 25 lakhs nett in the whole week but has done around 1.25 crore nett this weekend as shows increased.
MARCO is from Kerala and the only history of dubbed Malayalam films doing well in Hindi are sex/titillation films in the 80's. It remains to be seen how MARCO fares from here on. As far as BABY JOHN goes, it will not be doing much business from here on.
The collections of BABY JOHN till date are as follows.

Thursday - 4,15,00,000 apprx
Friday - 3,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 3,75,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 25,90,00,000 apprx

BABY JOHN continued its downwards trajectory as it collected 3.25 crore nett apprx on its third Friday. The film fell a further 20% from Thursday which had seen a huge drop. The film has collected a little over 18 crore nett over the first three days and it has nowhere to go from here.
The film is likely to get two more days where it can collect but when Friday is a little over 3 crore nett then by Monday there is going to be very limited collections. The Christmas period has not been kind to original Hindi films post pandemic with 83 (2021), CIRKUS (2022), DUNKI (2023) and now BABY JOHN (2024). DUNKI got an average number but for a film directed by Rajkumar Hirani featuring Shah Rukh Khan, it was well below the mark. The only exception is South film SALAAR which was good but pushed to the good mark by external factors.
The period is still fruitful as in the days of PK and DANGAL especially for films with the target audience of 83 and DUNKI as MUFASA: THE LION KING is showing to some extent but when the content is poor then the period also becomes poor.

BABY JOHN fell badly on day two by around 60-65% as it collected in the 4-4.25 crore nett range. The collections were always going to be low as day one was not good enough for a national holiday. The other films have fallen in the 40-50% range which should have been the case with BABY JOHN but reports are probably pushing this film down further.
The two day numbers of the film are 15 crore nett apprx and when collections fall to these levels on day two, there is not much the film can do from here except just meander along. Ideally the film had to be near double digits on day two but that would be only possible if the film cleared the 15 crore nett mark on day one.
Its is one of those films which has released on a major holiday but has not created an interest among the audience and there have been many of these post pandemic and probably more to come. The added issue here is that its a remake which is readily available in Hindi. That limits the audience further, especially in mass belts.
The film has the weeeknd to come but from this 4 crore level where do you go as it looks pretty impossible that the film can go back to the first day number on Sunday which is what should happen when you release on a holiday midweek.
The collections of BABY JOHN till date are as follows.
Wednesday - 10,75,00,000
Thursday - 4,15,00,000
TOTAL - 14,90,00,000 apprx
