WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE had a superb Sunday as it jumped 30% to collect 10-10.25 crore nett which now takes the film to over 115 crore nett. The trend of the film is actually stronger than it looks as these numbers are coming with the competition of a big release like ALPHA. The film saw huge jumps in the North and central markets with places like East Punjab and CI jumping over 50% on Sunday.

The collections are down in the second week in South and West Bengal but that is expected with a comedy though, back in the day, comedies used to score very well in Nizam/Andhra with long runs in Hyderabad. Its after a long time that a comedy has actually out performed in the North. As the more successful ones have tended to release on Diwali, its always Mumbai leading the way.

The film is the fourth success in a row for Akshay Kumar in the last 12 months and once this film gets past the DHAMAAL 4 obstacle, it may well be two back to back HITS in just two months.

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE saw a drop in collections on the third Friday as a similar type of film released, DHAMAAL 4, and moreover, it has done well. This was always the obstacle ahead of WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE mainly because of DHAMAAL 4 being a same genre film. The drop for WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is 50% on the third Friday where as the competition of ALPHA last week saw it drop 15% which was more normal though if it was not there, it would have not dropped.

These two weeks of back to back releases means WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE losing around 10-12 crore nett business had they not been there. But there is nothing that can be done as it was a race against time to get the film released and it had to come before July due to the digital deal. The film will have to settle for around 135 crore nett lifetime and its the clustered period which means the film settling for SEMI HIT status instead of HIT.

The film collected 85 lakhs nett on its third Friday but it should comeback on Saturday and Sunday but its a low third Friday.
