O'ROMEO collected around 7.50 crore nett on its first day which is a fair collection for its content which does look on the darker side but not for the costs associated with the film. There was a term used here years back of European directors and you would have expected them to fizzle out from making motion pictures for theatrical by now but its not totally happened yet. Basically the film is on the expensive side and it becomes about the growth and more than that where it goes from Monday onward. Ideally, the film needed to be around 9-10 crore nett on the first day.
The film has actually scored a little better in the mass pockets as the figures here are coming out higher than they should be for a film like this. However, this can be because there could be some of that usual fiddle which goes on nowadays with practically all releases but its best to sit on the fence after DHURANDHAR and lets see how the growth plays out in these parts which will give a better idea.
The growth should come out more than normal as its Valentines Day which should add to the Saturday trajectory. Although it may not be that romantic film for Valentines Day, it has been seen that it hardly matters and generally more people come to the cinemas on February 14. The film is dependent on the Saturday growth and then what happens on Monday. The first day number is not good but its just about good enough for the film to be in the race and now its on the merit of the film.
The other release TU YAA MAIN is a dull fare as it collects around 50 lakhs nett and this film even had some promotion to push it but the public has kept away. The trailer is weird to put it mildly and when its like this it means appeal for a very small minority. This film is in the romantic zone. So, Valentines Day can help a little more but where can you go with a 50 lakh start and limited urban appeal.
-----------------------------------
O'ROMEO showed growth of around 50% on its second day as it collected 11 crore nett adding to the 7.50 crore nett it collected on the first day. The film now stands at 18.50 crore nett after two days which is a so so collection. The growth is actually better than the 50% as there was a fiddle on the first day and actual collections were a bit less. The second day looks clean but you never know.
The growth would be good had it not been Valentines Day and as the other films have jumped much more, the growth here should have been more. O'ROMEO may not be that valentines type of films with dark elements but BORDER 2 is a testosterone film rather than a Valentines film. That film has trebled its collections and the other main films playing are also similar. O'ROMEO was never going to go three times up but a 70-80% jump was probably the need of the hour on Valentines Day.
It is Mahashivratri on Sunday followed by the big cricket match. The holiday factor may not work as a plus as its falling on the Sunday and then the match is sure to hit which pretty much means it will be a struggle to get the Saturday numbers up. There is a good chance the weekend collections will stay below 30 crore nett and then it becomes about the weekdays.
The collections of O'ROMEO are as follows.
Friday - 7,50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 11,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 18,50,00,000 apprx
The other release TU YAA MAIN collected 1.35 crore nett on Saturday showing a jump of 160% plus and this was probably more of a Valentines Day film for the metro youth. So, the collections showed a good jump but even here it probably had to be more as films like BORDER 2 and MARDAANI 3 have had bigger jumps. It will find it much harder on Sunday as Sunday is about the audience outside metros and this film will hardly have a audience there.
The collections of TU YAA MAIN are as follows.
Friday - 50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,35,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 1,85,00,000 apprx
