The Running Man is based on Stephen King's novel of the same name. The idea is fascinating as it mirrors, to some extent, the reality of today's times. The TV show shown in the film is like The Hunger Games on steroids. The rules of the game are a bit complicated. However, once the game show begins, the narrative gets simplified automatically. The action and chase sequences are exciting, but after a point, the novelty of the concept wears off. The film gets too long and the goings-on are too unconvincing. The finale also doesn't give a high either. Glen Powell is apt for the part, though he doesn't come across that angry initially. Josh Brolin is aptly cast and delivers a bravura performance. Colman Domingo (Bobby T) leaves a huge mark. Michael Cera (Elton) and Emilia Jones (Amelia) do well but are a bit letdown by the writing. Jayme Lawson (Sheila) is lovely in a supporting role. All in all, The Running Man makes for a decent, one-time watch.
