Sanya Malhotra-starrer Mrs has been a topic of discussion on social media over its depiction of casual sexism. But what surprised actor Nishant Dahiya, who portrays Sanya’s husband Diwakar, is the negative response he received.

“I’ve got a lot of love-hate! I got lovely messages from women who said they hate the character but appreciate my work,” he shares, adding, “But I’m getting abusive messages from men: ‘You dumb***k actor, go and eat rat poison!’ or ‘Die somewhere, you mother****er!’”

Nishant feels that this shows how it “touched a nerve”: “95% men are like Diwakar. Many are not yet aware of what they do. That’s the biggest problem.”

The film was panned by a section of social media for promoting ‘toxic feminism’, and he adds, “Our film is not limited to a woman saying, ‘I don’t want to do household work’. It’s about respecting your partner and her choices. When someone says this film is destroying the sanctity of marriage, I wonder why, because it was never about that.”
