Mumbai: The Central Film Certification Board (CBFC) informed the Bombay High Court on Thursday that its revising committee has suggested several cuts for the BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut-starrer 'Emergency' before its release.

The cuts include the deletion of the words "Sant" and "Bhindranwale" from a dialogue between Sanjay Gandhi and Giani Zail Singh, as well as between Indira Gandhi and the Army's top brass. Additionally, certain violent scenes have been toned down.

The Board suggested that the producers "remove all visuals and dialogue where Sikhs are shown shooting at non-Sardars in front of a bus." It also advised deleting the dialogue, “Main vada karda aa Khalistan da astitav main bana ke rahunga. Aidi neev main paake rahunga.”

The Board recommended inserting static text to clarify that real footage is being used in the film where applicable.

A two-judge bench of Justices B P Colabawalla and F P Pooniwalla remarked, “Give us some good news,” when the matter was called out on Thursday.

Zee Studios had filed a petition against the CBFC, seeking certification for the film's release.
Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd alleged that the Board was “illegally” and “arbitrarily” withholding certification for the film, directed and co-produced by BJP MP Ranaut, who also plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Earlier, the high court had given the CBFC time to hear representations from sections of society and communities objecting to certain portrayals in the film.

The CBFC has since suggested cuts. Zee's counsel sought time to respond to the suggested cuts, and the high court has posted the matter for Monday.

The Hindi movie Emergency had attracted protests from Sikh groups regarding the portrayal of their community in the film.

Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh high court had directed Sikh groups, who had moved the court against the film, to submit their objections to the movie and trailer to the CBFC within three days. The court asked the Board to expeditiously consider their representation.
