Munjya Review: Rarely Spooky Enough To Deliver Jump Scares
Box Office India Trade Network

MUNJYA has scored very well on its first day as it collected around 4.25 crore nett doing very good numbers across the belt as the genre helps the collections and also the lower ticket prices. Even allowing for this, the collections are still good.

The difference between this film and the other small films is that mass circuits have excellent collections for non cast film. A circuit like CP Berar has collected similar to CREW (holiday) and more than TERI BAATON MEIN AISA ULJHA JIYA. Maharashtra, Gujarat, CI, Rajasthan and Bihar are also very good. Odisha is fantastic as the genre works there big time.

The weaker collections are in NCR, Punjab and South; the underperformance in latter is expected as the film caters to Hindi belts. The North gets affected due to no stars but these areas will eventually do well. The growth on Saturday may not be huge due to the benefit of lower rates on Friday but the film should manage in the 40-50% range which is more than good enough.

The film does seem to hold some local appeal in Maharashtra as collections here are excellent which has lead Mumbai circuit to cross the 1.50 crore nett mark. The plus is that its not just collections from Mumbai city and Pune which is the case for most Hindi films. Again the audience gives the thumbs up for more rooted film with some rural flavour rather than the typical cool urban fare for the gentry which the industry generally dishes out.
