Chandu Champion Box Office Collection Day 1: Kartik Aaryan's Film Earns Over Rs 4 Crore
Box Office India Trade Network

CHANDU CHAMPION had a low weekend of 20.75 crore nett though it managed a decent Sunday as it had a good jump from Saturday. There is the Eid holiday on Monday which will help on Monday and it aided on Sunday as well. However, it has a long way to go with just 20 crore nett plus on the board.

The film just about came ahead of MUNJYA which was in its second weeeknd and generally collections in the core mass pockets are just not there for the film. Even a metro like Kolkata is on the lower side. The NCR region has performed best and there is also Mumbai city which is better as well as Bengaluru.

The film is very much depending on the metros in the long run and these films, for the gentry, generally also get some support from overseas. That is not the case here with MAIDAAN as its overseas performance is much worse than India. This was the case with MAIDAAN as well which was a film in the same zone. However, 83, by the same director, managed to do well in Overseas probably as it was a more lighter film and also had a far bigger look due to the budget.

It remains to be seen where CHANDU CHAMPION goes but it will be tough road with just the support of a few metros. This Saturday growth basically keeps the film afloat but just about.

The collections of CHANDU CHAMPION are as follows.
Friday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 9,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 20,75,00,000 apprx
------------------------------
CHANDU CHAMPION collected 5 crore nett on Monday which is around 15% up from day one and around 50% down from Sunday. The Monday trend is weaker than the holdover MUNJYA. The film also benefited from the Eid holiday and so far has collected almost 26 crore nett in four days. It could do around 35 crore nett in its first week depending on the drop on Tuesday.

The collections of CHANDU CHAMPION till date are as follows.
Friday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 9,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 5,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 25,75,00,000 apprx
------------------------------
CHANDU CHAMPION collected 2.75-3 crore nett on its first Tuesday which is 30-35% down from the Friday and the trend is not bad. But the problem is that Friday hardly had any collections. Hence, you sort of know that the drop is not going to be huge post the weekend but the numbers are just too low.

The film is heading for a first week of 34-35 crore nett which is not good and more importantly the film is doing lesser numbers than MUNJYA. Whatever MUNJYA adds from here, CHANDU CHAMPION will add less and any competition will hit it harder than MUNJYA as the horror comedy is an accepted film. CHANDU CHAMPION has collected around 29 crore nett in five days.

The daily collections of CHANDU CHAMPION till date are below.
Friday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 9,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 5,00,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 28,75,00,000 apprx
------------------------------
CHANDU CHAMPION has not done well in India but is even worse in overseas as it collects well under $1 million despite a wide release which may possibly be the biggest for a Kartik Aryan starrer. These collections pretty much seal its fate as would be fine if its a SRIKANTH, MUNJYA or even MR & MRS MAHI. But a film of the size of CHANDU CHAMPION needs overseas support as well if the only support in India is coming for gentry crowd.

Also even the gentry crowd support in India is an unknown yet as all that has happened is an out performce in a few metros in India although as usual there is a crazy positive word spread about the film in the media and trade as if the film is some classic. But that's all been there and done that and time will tell that it is definitely not that. It remains to be seen if its even an average or below average film, let alone classic.

The markets in overseas which can do best for the film like US/Canada and Australia due to it being a film for classes are less than a film like YODHA. The collections are just $330k in USA and A$80k in Australia with the latter being simply horrible for a film in this zone. The Gulf market are around the $275k mark and its looks like weekend of only $850k. Again, this is less than YODHA and not much better than MR & MRS MAHI, if we compare recent releases.

Basically, the first major release back post the dry period is a damp squib though not as bad as the Eid releases as cost may be higher than the likes of SRIKANTH, YODHA and MR & MRS MAHI but its well short of the likes of MAIDAAN and BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN. The problem pretty much remains that collections are hard to come when there is no mass support. This film has no music to give it some support either.
