CHANDU CHAMPION went down 10% on Wednesday as it collected 2.75 crore nett taking its six day number to 31.50 crore nett. The film had a dull opening which is still okay if the content works. But here, the weekdays are also just meandering along. The fact that a film like MUNJYA is just 2-3 crore nett behind despite being in week two with far less screens pretty much tells the box office picture of this film.
The film should easily beat the numbers of MAIDAAN which was a similar film but will remain well behind SAM BAHADUR which was another film in this zone. Also both MAIDAAN and SAM BAHADUR clashed with bigger films while CHANDU CHAMPION is a solo release.
The daily collections of CHANDU CHAMPION till date are below.
Friday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 9,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 5,00,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 2,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 31,50,00,000 apprx
-----------------------------------
CHANDU CHAMPION struggled in its first week with collections of 34 crore nett with basically the weekdays just not being a good enough with low collections. The film has not fared well like so many films post the pandemic but the difference here is that from day one, there was an attempt to call it a good film through the media. This was despite its impending fate which the trailer itself sort of said and the reports on day one compounded that.
This used to happen a lot of before the pandemic but is less frequent now and the last time this happened with a major film which did not work with the audience but was attempted to be made out to be a good film was 83 and and now its CHANDU CHAMPION. The audience mandate is pretty clear for both films and its not about being good but probably which is worse.
In the case of 83, it was not just the media but the industry also going crazy over a film which was on course to become a disaster. Here its more the media than the industry. Hence, some sense maybe coming in here as its probably the only industry in India where so may FLOP films are called good. The industry is at its worst point ever and things will hardly get better if bad cinema is thought to be good cinema.
There is MUNJYA running alongside CHANDU CHAMPION which clearly spells it out. If CHANDU CHAMPION is good cinema, then MUNJYA can probably be called an All Time Classic or a SHOLAY of the modern era. Also the first week box office of CHANDU CHAMPION comes with the various methods to push it up which is not just the problem with this film but with so many of them post the pandemic and without this aid, the collections would have been even lower.
The daily collections of CHANDU CHAMPION till date are below.
Friday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 9,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 5,00,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 2,75,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 34,00,00,000 apprx
-----------------------------------
CHANDU CHAMPION collected 2.50 crore nett on its second Friday which is similar to the Thursday. There was no release major release with ISHQ VISHK REBOUND being the main film and so, its par for the course. A healthy jump in collections on second Friday could have changed the scenario a little but that was never likely looking at the weekday trend.
The problem for the film remains the low numbers and it has only 37.50 crore nett up on the board and another five days before KALKI 2898 AD arrives. CHANDU CHAMPION will comfortably cross the 50 crore nett mark and it remains to be seen if it can get over 60 crore nett although it hardly matters as the result is the same.
The daily collections of CHANDU CHAMPION till date are below..
Friday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 9,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 5,00,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 2,75,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
Week One - 34,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 2,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 36,50,00,000 apprx
-----------------------------------
ISHQ VISHK REBOUND collected 1 crore nett on the first day which has mainly come because of some decent music as film does not look much. ISHQ VISHK was released in 2003 and fared decently but its not a film that probably have very little brand value today. The film has nowhere to go as there is Kalki 2898 AD next week. Nevertheless, it has managed some footfalls on day one.
Chandu Champion collects 28.75 cr in 5 days; collects under $1 million overseas

CHANDU CHAMPION had a low weekend of 20.75 crore nett though it managed a decent Sunday as it had a good jump from Saturday. There is the Eid holiday on Monday which will help on Monday and it aided on Sunday as well. However, it has a long way to go with just 20 crore nett plus on the board.
The film just about came ahead of MUNJYA which was in its second weeeknd and generally collections in the core mass pockets are just not there for the film. Even a metro like Kolkata is on the lower side. The NCR region has performed best and there is also Mumbai city which is better as well as Bengaluru.
The film is very much depending on the metros in the long run and these films, for the gentry, generally also get some support from overseas. That is not the case here with MAIDAAN as its overseas performance is much worse than India. This was the case with MAIDAAN as well which was a film in the same zone. However, 83, by the same director, managed to do well in Overseas probably as it was a more lighter film and also had a far bigger look due to the budget.
It remains to be seen where CHANDU CHAMPION goes but it will be tough road with just the support of a few metros. This Saturday growth basically keeps the film afloat but just about.
The collections of CHANDU CHAMPION are as follows.
Friday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 9,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 20,75,00,000 apprx
------------------------------
CHANDU CHAMPION collected 5 crore nett on Monday which is around 15% up from day one and around 50% down from Sunday. The Monday trend is weaker than the holdover MUNJYA. The film also benefited from the Eid holiday and so far has collected almost 26 crore nett in four days. It could do around 35 crore nett in its first week depending on the drop on Tuesday.
The collections of CHANDU CHAMPION till date are as follows.
Friday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 9,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 5,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 25,75,00,000 apprx
------------------------------
CHANDU CHAMPION collected 2.75-3 crore nett on its first Tuesday which is 30-35% down from the Friday and the trend is not bad. But the problem is that Friday hardly had any collections. Hence, you sort of know that the drop is not going to be huge post the weekend but the numbers are just too low.
The film is heading for a first week of 34-35 crore nett which is not good and more importantly the film is doing lesser numbers than MUNJYA. Whatever MUNJYA adds from here, CHANDU CHAMPION will add less and any competition will hit it harder than MUNJYA as the horror comedy is an accepted film. CHANDU CHAMPION has collected around 29 crore nett in five days.
The daily collections of CHANDU CHAMPION till date are below.
Friday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 9,75,00,000 apprx
Monday - 5,00,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 28,75,00,000 apprx
------------------------------
CHANDU CHAMPION has not done well in India but is even worse in overseas as it collects well under $1 million despite a wide release which may possibly be the biggest for a Kartik Aryan starrer. These collections pretty much seal its fate as would be fine if its a SRIKANTH, MUNJYA or even MR & MRS MAHI. But a film of the size of CHANDU CHAMPION needs overseas support as well if the only support in India is coming for gentry crowd.
Also even the gentry crowd support in India is an unknown yet as all that has happened is an out performce in a few metros in India although as usual there is a crazy positive word spread about the film in the media and trade as if the film is some classic. But that's all been there and done that and time will tell that it is definitely not that. It remains to be seen if its even an average or below average film, let alone classic.
The markets in overseas which can do best for the film like US/Canada and Australia due to it being a film for classes are less than a film like YODHA. The collections are just $330k in USA and A$80k in Australia with the latter being simply horrible for a film in this zone. The Gulf market are around the $275k mark and its looks like weekend of only $850k. Again, this is less than YODHA and not much better than MR & MRS MAHI, if we compare recent releases.
Basically, the first major release back post the dry period is a damp squib though not as bad as the Eid releases as cost may be higher than the likes of SRIKANTH, YODHA and MR & MRS MAHI but its well short of the likes of MAIDAAN and BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN. The problem pretty much remains that collections are hard to come when there is no mass support. This film has no music to give it some support either.

CHANDU CHAMPION had good growth on Saturday as the film jumped around 60% to collecte 6.50-6.75 crore nett. However, the collections remain low with just 11 crore nett on the board in the first two days. The two day numbers of the film are pretty similar to last week's MUNJYA and that pretty much tells the story of the film.
The Saturday growth of 50% was a must for the film and it has managed that as anything lower than that and it could have been curtains pretty early. Now with this growth, the film can consolidate on Sunday as growth should be better than a normal Sunday due to Monday being a holiday and Sunday night shows being better than a normal Sunday.
The film will be depending on where the collections land post the holiday on Monday and even then, there will be a long way to go for the film. This long road is down to the failure of the film to get an opening. It is fine for smaller films not to open as they can get somewhere on the trend but for these bigger films, its asking a lot for them to show 20-30% weekly drops. This Saturday growth basically keeps the film afloat but just about.
The film remains behind MUNJYA in most mass centres despite that film in second week and CHANDU CHAMPION being in the first weekend. It is mainly better in the metros be it Mumbai city, Delhi NCR or Bangalore but that also is not exactly an achievement. The film is worse in Overseas as day one was pretty much the same as a film like MR & MRS MAHI with the US/Canada market which has best chances being under $100k.
The collections of CHANDU CHAMPION are as follows.
Friday - 4,25,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 11,00,00,000 apprx
