HINDUSTAN TIMES (May 15, 2024)
Jackie Shroff is unhappy with actors, comedians and content creators mimicking his style and using his signature word ‘Bhidu’ online and on TV shows without his consent. The actor has filed a suit in Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights. According to Live and Law, the suit has been filed against the entities using his name, photos, voice and the word ‘Bhidu’ without his consent. Shroff has also alleged that all this is being misused for commercial purposes.
Soon upon hearing the matter on Tuesday, summons have been issued to the defendant entities in the suit. Shroff’s lawyer told court that one of the defendants was running a restaurant with the name Bhidu that is the registered trademark of Shroff.
The suit further stated that some of the defendants were using his images on T-shirts, mugs and posters without his consent or license. Additionally, various memes and videos using the actor’s images and voice were said to be defamatory.
We reached out to Shroff for a comment, but his team turned down the request as the matter is now sub judice.
