Maidaan Box Office Collection Day 5: Ajay Devgn's Film's Weekend 1 Report Card
Box Office India Trade Network

MAIDAAN had a horrible first day of around 4 crore nett and there is not much that can be said when this happens to a big film. The film did not not have that entertainment value for the Eid crowd. So, it was never about that but you would expect the film to get some multiplex crowd in the big centres on a national holiday.

The trailer and units not looking good also do not justify such a low start and the only thing which may have led to such a low start here is that Ajay Devgn just had another release a month back. One of the reasons of BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN being lacklustre can be put down to the fact that Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff's films have generally not done well post pandemic but this is not the case with Ajay Devgn.

Basically MAIDAAN may have got hit as its two Ajay Devgn films in a month. This does not mean it would have worked if SHAITAAN was not there but the opening would have been better and not so low. Also maybe Eid is not the right day for such a film but this is all clutching at straws as the bottom line is that the audience is nit interested in this sort of cinema to justify it being made at such a cost. There has to mass appeal through commercial elements, music or sentiments.

These numbers have come on a national holiday and there is nowhere to go for the film. The film is for a niche audience and with practically nothing coming into cinemas until after the elections, it can hang around at the big multiplexes but collections will not be going anywhere.

The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 6,00,00,000 apprx
----------------------------------------
MAIDAAN has collected a poor 3 crore nett on its second day taking its total to 9 crore nett including paid previews. The film has dropped around 25% on the second day which is a semi holiday as compared to a national holiday on the first day.

The collections of the film are incredibly low across all circuits and there is nowhere you can go from here. The only thing the film can do is hang around in cinemas which maybe possible as in the bigger cinemas, it has fallen only 15-20% coming off a national holiday and in these places Bassi Eid hardly helps.

The overall picture is awful but it may get this niche audience coupled with no major releases which can allow the film to hand around on poor collections but films like this are not made to hang around on low occupancy.

The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 9,00,00,000 apprx
----------------------------------------
MAIDAAN picked up 5.75-6 crore nett on Saturday which was almost doubling of the collections from Friday. The collections in the bigger centres more than doubled especially where Eid is mainly a one day holiday. Also the film did not really get much of the Eid crowd due to more gentry content; so, it is much of a less factor here as compared to BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN.

The film is around 50% up from Thursday which was a national holiday. Although the collections are nothing much, it is rare for a film to open up on a national holiday and then to go this much higher than the national holiday. It could be its a big centre film and the Eid holiday release with a clash did not gets its target audience in or it can actually be start of good trend for the film.

The hope is this to be start of a good trend but that will be known with the weekday collections. The film did go ahead of BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN at certain multiplexes on Saturday and it looks like on Sunday, it will go ahead at most multiplexes. But since it has huge contributions from big centres and got much growth on Saturday, it could prove tougher to go up a lot on Sunday.

The film is looking to do its best business in Mumbai circuit.

The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 15,00,00,000 apprx
----------------------------------------
Maidaan collected an extremely dull 21 crore nett in its extended first weekend which includes paid previews on Thursday. The film saw a huge jump on Saturday when collections went ahead of its national holiday number but then on Sunday, it was pretty much flat as collections in mass pockets did not move.

The film had to jump better on Sunday to give it a better chance of a run but its tough when the Sunday collections only get a little above 6 crore nett. The film has gone well over budget but even if this did not happen, the problem is that the film is niche and for a limited audience.

The film needs to hold at the Friday level for some sort of run but with Sunday not going up it is very difficult for the film to to be just 50% down from Sunday. Also even if the run comes it will not indicate success but at least, it can show the film has some appreciation with that limited urban crowd.

The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 5,85,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 6,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 21,00,00,000 apprx
----------------------------------------
MAIDAAN was poor in overseas with around $625,000. US/Canada and Gulf both collected $225,000 each, making US/Canada the best market for this films as Gulf should have better due to Eid. The worldwide number for MAIDAAN was almost 30 crore.
