Maidaan collects 50.01 cr in 6 weeks

MAIDAAN will hit the 50 crore nett by the end of the week and that will be it for the film with a finish just a little above 50 crore nett. The film trended okay after its first week for three weeks but as soon as a new release came with SRIKANTH, the film saw a drop in collections.
The 50 crore nett mark has been a struggle for the film as the mass circuits did not just collect and it may well be that a film like SRIKANTH will come out with higher numbers in the likes of East Punjab, Rajasthan and CI. MAIDAAN may not be for the circuits but SRIKANTH is also not a film for these areas and on top of it, it does not have star value.
The business is a little better in Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata and that too in the bigger cinemas and the football factor probably helped here especially in Kolkata. The film has managed to trend better than BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN but collections remained lower except West Bengal and Mysore and maybe Mumbai circuit.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Week One - 26,22,00,000 (8 days plus PP)
Week Two - 9,79,00,000
Week Three - 7,62,00,000
Week Four - 4,14,00,000
Week Five - 1.49,00,000
Week Six - 75,00,000 apprx (expected)
TOTAL - 50,01,00,000 apprx

MAIDAAN remained the best collecting Hindi film in this dull period with collections of 2.50-2.75 crore nett in its fourth weekend. The film has seen a drop in collections this week as weekend is down 40-45% as compared to the 30-35% last week.
The film has collected around 46 crore nett so far and now will cross 50 crore nett but that is basically because there are no releases. The film opened under 4 crore nett on a national holiday and getting to 50 crore nett from there is not bad but that's only if it was 20-30 crore budget film and not a 200 crore plus budgeted product.
Mumbai circuit remains best while Kolkata is also holding up well due to the football factor which is bigger in this city than other places. Next best is Bangalore while North India and Central have awful collections.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Week One - 26,22,00,000 (8 days plus PP)
Week Two - 9,79,00,000
Week Three - 7,62,00,000
Friday - 50,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 1,25,00,000 apprx
Fourth Weekend - 2,75,00,000 apprx

MAIDAAN is getting some holiday benefit over the weekdays in its third week as it is Labour/Maharashtra Day on Wednesday which meant a minor jump on Tuesday as its the day before the holiday. The growth was mainly in Maharashtra; also, the film is best in Mumbai city that showed best gains which should continue on Wednesday.
This now takes the third week to 6.25 crore nett and the film will be looking at a 7.50 crore nett plus third week which means the drop in the third week will be in the 20% range. This is a pretty good trend but there are no collections for the film.
If the film can continue to trend with 20-30% range weekly drops over the next few weeks then at least the final number can look reasonable in terms of how low the opening day number was but it cant change the fate of the film.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Week One - 26,22,00,000
Week Two - 9,79,00,000
Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
Monday - 60,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 70,00,000 apprx
Third Weekend - 6,30,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 42,31,00,000 apprx
----------------------------------
MAIDAAN saw a good jump in collections on Wednesday as the Maharashtra belt saw a big jump due to Maharashtra Day and collections doubled here at some cinemas. It was Labour Day in some other states which helped collections where it was a holiday.
MAIDAAN picked up 1.1 crore nett on Wednesday and now is looking at a 7.75-8 crore nett third week. The holiday is a good one in Maharashtra as Marathi film NAACH GA GHUMA opened very well and a holdover like MADGAON EXPRESS, which has a huge ratio of business coming from Maharashtra, also showed big gains.
But at the end of the day, its another holiday gone to waste after Eid as none of the films in cinemas at present have the appreciation to make it really count. The new release last week RUSLAAN actually felt the heat in Maharashtra due to Marathi releases and loss of shows and collections were actually down for the film despite it being a holiday.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Week One - 26,22,00,000
Week Two - 9,79,00,000
Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
Monday - 60,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 70,00,000 apprx
Wednesday - 1,10,00,000 apprx
Third Week- 7,40,00,000 apprx (6 Days)
TOTAL - 42,31,00,000 apprx

MAIDAAN had a low third weekend of 5 crore nett apprx though it was steady compared to the last weekend with a drop of around 30%. The film has reached 41 crore nett and is probably looking at an end of around 50 crore nett.
The holds are there not because there is appreciation but because there is nothing out there in the cinemas for the public to watch. This would not have happened if collections were at higher levels and its a similar story for practically every film being screened as they collect at very low occupancy due to the lack of releases.
MAIDAAN will see its best collections in Mumbai circuit thanks to better numbers in Mumbai city. Mumbai city will collect far better than Delhi city for MAIDAAN which is the opposite of what happened with SHAITAAN where Delhi city got better numbers.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Week One - 26,22,00,000
Week Two - 9,79,00,000
Friday - 1,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 1,75,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 2,25,00,000 apprx
Third Weekend - 5,00,00,000 apprx

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan has 365 cr budget; to recover 185 cr; Maidaan to recover 160 cr from 240 cr budget

The last week has been the worst week ever for the film industry with two huge disasters BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN and MAIDAAN hitting cinemas on Eid. The lowest point ever before that was Independence Day week of 2022 when LAAL SINGH CHADDHA and RAKSHA BANDHAN came together. Still those were dark days with heavy post Covid hangover which served as some sort of excuse.
Gradually, the box office started recovering but now Eid 2024 sees the lowest of lows. Not much was really expected from either film but the hope was BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN can get some sort of opening and MAIDAAN would pick up due to the zone it is in. Neither happened. BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN was dead on arrival with no interest while MAIDAAN was never going to open but it also refused to pick up.
The losses are huge for both films as MAIDAAN is a 240 crore film and recovery from all revenue will be around 160 crore. BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN will recover around 185 crore on a 365 crore budget. There is a caveat on BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN as there will be rebate from United Kingdom which brings the budget down. The number filed for a UK rebate will actually bring the budget down heavily if this rebate comes but we will go by fair value which makes it comes down to 290 crore. In other words, its a 200 crore fair value loss this Eid between the two films.
Internally, it gets worse for the industry with films being shelved across the board. The scenario is such today that by the time news of a film happening breaks into the public domain, it is probably actually shelved. The announcements are many but many of these will not get made. This is not the doing of Eid releases as was there before but the results of the Eid films just shakes up the industry more.
The first quarter has done okay and only SHAITAAN has done well all over. It is that real HIT film in the first quarter. More than that, the first quarter had almost every other film giving incentives and there was smatterings of feeding as well. So irrespective of where the numbers land, when these things are happening, it signals things are NOT right. A positive picture may well be painted with perception through the media for films but within the industry, everyone knows its in shambles at present and no one really knows when it will get better.
The second quarter will be worse than the first quarter due to lack of films and all hope is pinned on the second half of the year which should bring some relief though only if the films have merits. There are original Hindi films like SINGHAM AGAIN, BHOOL BHULAIYAA 3 and STREE 2, which on paper look like those desi entertainers, and can maybe unlock the business in the Hindi speaking states. This is the key going forward as once the films start scoring in these belts, it will lift the gloomy clouds as these limited footfalls in the big states in the first quarter just cannot take the industry anywhere.

MAIDAAN collected 7.50 crore nett in its second weekend which takes the total collections of the film to 34 crore nett. The collections of the film remain very dull though it is now doing better than the competition BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN and comfortably ahead in the second weekend.
The film is faring a little better in Mumbai city, Kolkata and Bangalore but collections in the Hindi belt are a total disaster. The better numbers in Kolkata are probably down to the football factor. A circuit like Rajasthan may not reach 1.50 crore nett while a SHAITAAN did over 6.50 crore nett in the circuit.
MAIDAAN will stick around in cinemas for many weeks due to lack of options. Although a 50 crore plus total does not look easy from here, there may well be a few steady weeks down the line.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.

MAIDAAN made good gains on its second Saturday as it jumped 85% to collect 2.75 crore nett which takes the film to over 30 crore nett. It is now the best collecting film out there including the new releases but with these low numbers, that is little consolation.
The second week looks to be heading for 10 crore nett apprx which is nothing though the fall from seven days of the first week is not huge.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.

MAIDAAN made a decent gain on its second Friday as compared to the Thursday as collections were up by around 20%. It managed to collect 1.50 crore nett on Friday which now takes the film to 29 crore nett and it can aim for a double digit week.
It makes little difference to the final outcome but the film did eventually collect better than BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN on its second Friday. However, it has come too late in the day and had to overtake earlier if it was to anywhere at the box office.
MAIDAAN should show a good jump on Saturday like last week when it gave some hope for a run only for Sunday to dash those hopes.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx

MAIDAAN ended the week on a downward note as it say another big drop post the Ram Navami Holiday. The collections came down to 1.25 crore nett on Thursday and a total of 27.50 crore nett for the extended first week.
The trend of the film is pretty shocking on the weekdays. The collections of BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN were expected to go this way on the weekdays but you expect a film like MAIDAAN to hold better as it has a smaller target audience.
There are a few small releases today with none of them finding and an audience and it remains to be seen how the film goes on its second Friday. At present it looks like a finish around the 40 crore nett mark for the film unless the business jumps today.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx

MAIDAAN collected 1.60 crore nett on Tuesday to take its total to 24 crore nett in six days plus paid previews. The films edged up a little from its Monday collections but it was minimal growth.
The hold hardly matters as its come from such low numbers. The first week looks to be heading for 27 crore nett and this is an eight day week with paid previews.
There is likely to be only film in whole of May which is likely to be release which will get a decent release in terms of screens and that is TEHRAN if it comes mid May. So, basically the flow of films starts mid June which will allow MAIDAAN to stick around possibly through May but the collections will be next to nothing.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 5,85,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 6,25,00,000 apprx
Monday - 1,50,00,000 apprx
Tuesday - 1,60,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 24,20,00,000 apprx
---------------------------------------------
The Eid releases could not benefit much from the partial holiday of Ram Navami as MAIDAAN went up by 25% as it collected 2 crore nett.
This now takes MAIDAAN to 26.25 crore nett. The combined total of both films is 72 crore nett and 100 crore nett combined is not a foregone conclusion though with open period and incentives which will come, you would think the films can at least do 100 crore nett combined.
The week was a fantastic week for collections with first the Eid period and then a weekday boost from Ram Navami but it has all gone all wrong with content of both films not appealing. The marginal jumps on Ram Navami shows the rejection of both films.
It will be testing times for exhibitors as these two films were supposed to give some breathing space with limited releases over the election period but both films were pretty much dead on arrival.
In Overseas, MAIDAAN hardly had any collections on the weekdays and will be practically out in week one outside US/Canada where it is comparatively better.

MAIDAAN picked up 1.50 crore nett on Monday as collections came down to very low levels. The film offered some hope on Saturday not in terms of success but some sort of run. But it could not really consolidate with pretty flat collections on Sunday.
Now with these Monday collections, its very normal trending and there are no collections on the board. The business till date is not even 23 crore nett and its down to these low levels on Monday.
The film needed to collect close to its Friday number which would have allowed it to benefit form the coming weak period. Success was always out of the question with the start it got but if you can get to 75 crore nett from a 4 crore nett start, then at least you know the content has some appreciation however limited and can be beneficial to some of the talent involved in the film. But it was not to be and the film has gone wrong from all angles.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx

MAIDAAN had a horrible first day of around 4 crore nett and there is not much that can be said when this happens to a big film. The film did not not have that entertainment value for the Eid crowd. So, it was never about that but you would expect the film to get some multiplex crowd in the big centres on a national holiday.
The trailer and units not looking good also do not justify such a low start and the only thing which may have led to such a low start here is that Ajay Devgn just had another release a month back. One of the reasons of BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN being lacklustre can be put down to the fact that Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff's films have generally not done well post pandemic but this is not the case with Ajay Devgn.
Basically MAIDAAN may have got hit as its two Ajay Devgn films in a month. This does not mean it would have worked if SHAITAAN was not there but the opening would have been better and not so low. Also maybe Eid is not the right day for such a film but this is all clutching at straws as the bottom line is that the audience is nit interested in this sort of cinema to justify it being made at such a cost. There has to mass appeal through commercial elements, music or sentiments.
These numbers have come on a national holiday and there is nowhere to go for the film. The film is for a niche audience and with practically nothing coming into cinemas until after the elections, it can hang around at the big multiplexes but collections will not be going anywhere.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 6,00,00,000 apprx
----------------------------------------
MAIDAAN has collected a poor 3 crore nett on its second day taking its total to 9 crore nett including paid previews. The film has dropped around 25% on the second day which is a semi holiday as compared to a national holiday on the first day.
The collections of the film are incredibly low across all circuits and there is nowhere you can go from here. The only thing the film can do is hang around in cinemas which maybe possible as in the bigger cinemas, it has fallen only 15-20% coming off a national holiday and in these places Bassi Eid hardly helps.
The overall picture is awful but it may get this niche audience coupled with no major releases which can allow the film to hand around on poor collections but films like this are not made to hang around on low occupancy.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 9,00,00,000 apprx
----------------------------------------
MAIDAAN picked up 5.75-6 crore nett on Saturday which was almost doubling of the collections from Friday. The collections in the bigger centres more than doubled especially where Eid is mainly a one day holiday. Also the film did not really get much of the Eid crowd due to more gentry content; so, it is much of a less factor here as compared to BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN.
The film is around 50% up from Thursday which was a national holiday. Although the collections are nothing much, it is rare for a film to open up on a national holiday and then to go this much higher than the national holiday. It could be its a big centre film and the Eid holiday release with a clash did not gets its target audience in or it can actually be start of good trend for the film.
The hope is this to be start of a good trend but that will be known with the weekday collections. The film did go ahead of BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN at certain multiplexes on Saturday and it looks like on Sunday, it will go ahead at most multiplexes. But since it has huge contributions from big centres and got much growth on Saturday, it could prove tougher to go up a lot on Sunday.
The film is looking to do its best business in Mumbai circuit.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 6,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 15,00,00,000 apprx
----------------------------------------
Maidaan collected an extremely dull 21 crore nett in its extended first weekend which includes paid previews on Thursday. The film saw a huge jump on Saturday when collections went ahead of its national holiday number but then on Sunday, it was pretty much flat as collections in mass pockets did not move.
The film had to jump better on Sunday to give it a better chance of a run but its tough when the Sunday collections only get a little above 6 crore nett. The film has gone well over budget but even if this did not happen, the problem is that the film is niche and for a limited audience.
The film needs to hold at the Friday level for some sort of run but with Sunday not going up it is very difficult for the film to to be just 50% down from Sunday. Also even if the run comes it will not indicate success but at least, it can show the film has some appreciation with that limited urban crowd.
The collections of MAIDAAN till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 2,00,00,000 apprx
Thursday - 4,00,00,000 apprx
Friday - 3,00,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 5,85,00,000 apprx
Sunday - 6,25,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 21,00,00,000 apprx

MAIDAAN was poor in overseas with around $625,000. US/Canada and Gulf both collected $225,000 each, making US/Canada the best market for this films as Gulf should have better due to Eid. The worldwide number for MAIDAAN was almost 30 crore.

The two big Eid releases MAIDAAN and BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN have not opened well considering its a huge holiday for Eid. The numbers may look okay by the end of the day but that would be if they were non holiday releases and not released on one of the biggest days of the year for box office collections.
The films have been in rough waters as soon as it emerged that Eid would be a day later which meant a change of plans for the films. MAIDAAN released on the original date with paid previews and collected around 2-2.25 crore nett. It remains to be seen where the film goes on the first day as the holiday will help.
BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN released today after many change of plans in the last few days but the film has not opened anything like a big film for the wider audience should. Its better than what the advances suggested as there were single digit numbers going around due to very dull advances. There will be many analysis out there to why such a big film is not getting the opening it should but primarily it boils down to why its made and that is the rebate from UK.
These sort of films are not going to set the box office on fire though some may do well at a level but here its one of the biggest films of the year so the business has to be much higher than that level.
The film could have some numbers due to the Eid period but it remains to be seen if this can translate into anything substantial. The best news for the film will be Gulf where it looks to be crossing $300k and maybe towards $400k and hence, it will have the biggest opening for an Akshay Kumar starrer.
The UK could also have seen good numbers but a 15 certificate has meant lesser numbers. Both markets are very good on Eid which was on Wednesday in these places. Gulf could give overseas a better picture if it can collect till Sunday.
Its a dull Eid for the film industry but hope will remain until the verdicts come out. If none of these films sustain, its going to be a horrible 2 months at the box office and will be like like pack your bags and come back in June post the elections.
-------------------------------
BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN collected around $575k in overseas on its first day mainly thanks to a good response in Gulf which was the best start for Akshay Kumar.
It was a late start in most places and many places will start today (Thursday) including Australia. Eid is not too beneficial in US/Canada and its a midweek release so that is reflected in the collections. UK should be a better but the 15 certificate means a limited Eid crowd in UK..
MAIDAAN was struggle overseas as it does not have much for the Eid audience in terms of initial. Gulf was better here also but around $50k.
The overseas collections of BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN are as follows.
UK - £51,000
US/Canada - $110,000
Gulf - $375,000
