Late singer Kishore Kumar’s son, singer Amit Kumar, took his legacy forward decades ago. And now, his granddaughter, Muktika Ganguly, joins the fold. She is set for her first gig, a charity show in Mumbai on October 7. Set to share the stage with her dad, Muktika, 18, will raise funds to support women cancer survivors.

Amit says, “When the organisers asked me if she could accompany me on stage, I got excited. I performed my first show with my daddy in 1971 in Mumbai and now, my daughter will accompany me. It’s like life coming full circle.”

He adds, “I never told her, ‘You have to do music and take the family’s musical tradition forward’. It’s not easy to carry the legacy forward. I have done it for years and I know how difficult it is to do that.”

Amit feels if Muktika has to make a career in Bollywood, “she will have to be diplomatic and will have to learn classical music”.
