Even before its theatrical release, OMG 2 created buzz when it was given an A certificate that restricts children and teenagers from watching the film that talks about the importance of sex education in school. After watching it, moviegoers have expressed their wish to show the film to teenagers at home. Several of actor Akshay Kumar’s fan clubs have also started an online petition, asking the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to reconsider its decision.

Neeraj Raut runs a fan club called Akkistan and has started a petition, Unmute Sex Education: Stop Censoring, Start Educating, which has more than 14,000 signatures: “If the film gets a U/A certificate, schools, especially those in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, can screen it, as it’s largely a taboo there.”

Girish Patil, along with members of his fan club, Puneri Akkians, took to X to write to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, and the CBFC. Patil says, “We are upset with the CBFC because Adipurush ke baad jo bhi hua (the film was trolled for its dialogues), uske darr se itni achchi film ko A certificate de diya. They played it safe.”

OMG 2 actor Govind Namdev shared on Facebook: “Jo dimaag censor board ko Adipurush jaisi behuda film mein lagana chahiye tha wo unhone Oh My God jaisi thoughtful aur progressive film ko kaatne kootne mein kharch kar diya.”

He added, “It will be a wise step if Censor rectify its mistake and give at least U/A certificate to let a positive revolution set in for the betterment of our society’s teenagers upbringing (sic).”

Trade expert and producer Girish Johar says that the CBFC follows a certain criteria and “they can’t change things based on what fans want”.

Akshay Kumar did OMG 2 for free
With OMG 2’s box-office numbers in India reaching over Rs. 85 crore, Ajit Andhare, COO, Viacom 18, refutes the rumours that suggest the film is a flop: “The reports of the budget of OMG 2 are exaggerated. Akshay didn’t charge a rupee in fee.” A report by Pinkvilla quotes a source claiming the budget of the film is a mere Rs. 50 crore, instead of Rs. 150 crore.
