While Aarush Varma, who played the role of Vivek Mudgal (actor Pankaj Tripathi’s son) in OMG 2, is making waves with his performance in the film, the child actor hasn’t been able to watch his own big screen debut. Amid the ongoing debate on the A certificate of the film, he has filed a petition on change.org asking the Censor Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) to change its rating to U/A.
“It was my mum’s idea. I joked and said, ‘Maybe I should start a petition for OMG 2,’ and she said it was a good idea,” says Varma, who has around 1,300 signatures on his petition, so far.
Despite the film’s triumph, the 16-year-old is upset about the film’s certificate. “I feel extremely disappointed because every aspiring actor dreams of seeing themselves on the big screen. Not being able to watch my first film has pissed me off,” he admits.
Criticizing the CBFC’s decision to keep away teenagers from watching the film, Varma states, “I’m angry at the Censor Board. The film was made for teenagers and on an important subject (of having sex education in school), so restricting the target audience negates the motive of making the movie.”
However, Varma is “really happy the film is doing so well”. He adds, “I have wanted to be an actor all my life, so now having a film that people are appreciating and giving me so much love, is a big thing. People are praising my performance, which I’m happy to hear. If I can’t enjoy my own work, at least someone else can.”
