IFFM: Rani Mukerji to conduct masterclass on her illustrious journey as an actor

BOMBAY TIMES (August 12, 2023)

Rani Mukerji, who recently spoke at a film festival in Melbourne, revealed that she suffered a miscarriage during the Coronavirus pandemic. Rani, who has an eight-year-old daughter Adira, said, “So, it was around the year when COVID-19 struck. It was 2020. I got pregnant with my second baby at the end of 2020 and I unfortunately lost my baby five months into my pregnancy.”

The actress, who was last seen in Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway (2023), also explained why she did not share this while promoting the film. “This is the first time I am making this revelation because in today’s world, every aspect of your life is discussed publicly, and becomes an agenda for talking about your film to get more eyeballs,” she said.

Rani also shared that she got a call from producer Nikkhil Advani to star in the film (which revolves around a mother’s struggle) just 10 days post the miscarriage. “He told me about the story and... not that I had to have the loss of a child to feel the emotion but sometimes... what you are going through personally (helps) you... connect with it instantly,” said Rani, adding that the film’s team “will be quite shocked” to learn about her loss.
