Cinema has become vulgar business of numbers, says Isha

Taking to Instagram, Isha Talwar shared the not-so-great IMDb rating of the new Bollywood releases and asked “real writers to stand up” and take charge of the situation. The actor tells us, “Cinema has been reduced to a vulgar business of numbers. Do you remember having discussions about box-office performance or first-week collection during the 90s? No. People criticize the content but [films are] still reaching the Rs. 500 crore mark.”

The 35-year-old blames content repetition and the industry being “inaccessible for newcomers” as a reason why films haven’t been doing well. She explains, “It’s impossible for fresh talent to break in. The narrative around the industry have left them petrified. And, if we won’t welcome them, how will our product be up to the mark.”

Talwar, who was recently seen in Run Baby Run, says Bollywood isn’t based on merit. “They (makers) don’t see your value or talent. You have to be a popular face to be in a big-ticket film. Had there been no OTT, would actors like me get work? I’m not sure. I struggled for 10 years and didn’t get any work until Mirzapur (2018). Even now, after doing a project like Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, I’m giving auditions [for Hindi projects]. Your performance isn’t enough here,” she ends.
