Controversial Movie 'The Kerala Story' Made Tax-Free In Madhya Pradesh
Box Office India Trade Network

THE KERALA STORY was fantastic on Saturday as it easily went into double digits with collections of 10.50 crore nett. The growth of the film is excellent at 55% and it has collected 17.25 crore nett in two days. The film has comfortably beaten the big Hollywood release GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 on the second day.

The film is having some issues in the South with many cinemas in Kerala been told not to play the film and there are reports from Tamil Nadu that the film had to be stopped in Chennai as exhibitors feared cinemas being vandalized. On the other hand, the film has been given tax exemption in MP and it is said that the government there is even encouraging children to watch this A certificate film which is a joke as the film has many gruesome disturbing scenes.

Irrespective of what sort of cinema this is or there are issues in some southern states, the fact is the film is doing outstanding business in core of India be it MP, Gujarat, UP or Bihar and even Maharashtra and that is eventually what will matter. Also with the support of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, it has turned out to be a fantastic weekend for the exhibition sector when they were getting ready for a dull phase.

The film has found acceptance and unlike THE KASHMIR FILES, the collections of the film are generally organic till now. There will also be the difference between Kashmir and Kerala as a story based in Kashmir rather than Kerala is more closer to home for the general audience.

The two day collections of THE KERALA STORY are as follows.
Friday -  6,75,00,000 apprx
Saturday - 10,50,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 17,25,00,000 apprx
