Mumbai: A former driver employed with Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam’s father, Agam Kumar (76), was arrested on Wednesday, for allegedly stealing Rs. 72 lakh from his seventh-floor flat in Andheri (west).
Oshiwara police team nabbed the accused, Rehman alias Ramzan Mujjawar (30), from his Jogeshwari home. The money was to be paid to an interior designer for renovation work. After Mujjawar’s interrogation, the police recovered Rs 70.70 lakh of the booty from his home in Kolhapur on Friday. Mujjawar told the police he had planned the theft since he was sacked eight months ago. He had not returned a key to the flat.
“The booty was recovered from his Kolhapur home. He used the duplicate key to enter the flat and made away with the cash,” said DCP Anil Paraskar.
The singer’s sister, Nikita (33), had lodged a complaint, said senior inspector Rajani Salunke. Musician Agam Kumar Nigam’s daughter Nikita declined to divulge details when TOI inquired. In her complaint, Nikita said: “My father found Rs 40 lakh missing from the locker. . . there was no sign of forced entry into the house.”
