Indore: Television actress Vaishali Takkar died by suicide in Indore on Sunday. The 30-year-old, who debuted in ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, hanged herself at home and left behind a note alleging that she was being harassed by a former boyfriend, police said.

Late on Sunday evening, Tejaji Nagar police station in-charge R D Kanwa said, “We have recovered a five-page note, written in a small diary, from her room. We are verifying its content. She has named a former boyfriend and said that he was troubling her. She said he wasn’t marrying her, nor was he letting her marry anyone else. The former boyfriend is married with two kids.”

One of her recent social media posts is being seen as an ominous indication of her suicide. A week ago, Takkar had posted a reel on her social media account, showing a whirling ceiling fan, with the comment: ‘What do you do on Sundays?’

It was Takkar’s brother who found her hanging in her room on Saturday night. They took her to a hospital but she was declared dead on arrival by doctors. Police sent her body for post mortem examination at MY Hospital. She was cremated by her family on Sunday afternoon.

“An iPhone, iPad and other items have been seized from her house. The note has been sent for examination by handwriting experts,” said Kanwa, adding that no case has been registered against the former boyfriend yet. “We have called him for questioning after which further action will be taken,” said Kanwa.

Takkar had worked in many popular television shows, but her suicide note suggests she wastired of the TV industry and wanted to settle and have a family, said a police officer on condition of anonymity. The actress was engaged to a Kenya-based furniture businessman in 2021, but it was called off a month later. Takkar had updated details of her engagement on social media but later posted that she had broken up with him and deleted the engagement pictures from her account.

After completing her graduation from Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya in 2014, Takkar got abreak in a TV show and shifted to Mumbai. She started her career in the popular TV show ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ as Sanjana and was also seen in ‘Ye Vaada Raha’ ,’Ye Hai Ashiqui’, ‘Sasural Simar Ka’, ‘Super Sisters’, ‘Laal Ishq’, ‘Vish Ya Amrit and ‘Manmohini 2’. She won an award for playing a negative lead role in ‘Sasural Simar Ka’.

Her father is a businessman in Indore. She lived with her parents and brother in Sai Bagh Colony of Tejaji Nagar area.
