Bengaluru rave party: Siddhanth Kapoor gets bail in drug case

Police tried to obtain information about the peddler and others at the party from Siddhanth’s phone, say sources

Actor and DJ Siddhanth Kapoor, who was arrested on charges of alleged drug consumption under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 on Monday, was released on bail around midnight, along with the four others who also tested positive for drug abuse. Siddhanth was called for investigation on Tuesday at Bengaluru’s Ulsoor police station, to obtain further details on the party held at a city hotspot on Friday night.

Speaking to the media earlier in the day, DCP (East) Bheemashankar S Guled, said, “All five have been released on station bail and they will have to appear before police as and when called.”

The accused were released since they were consumers. Sources said that during the investigation, the police tried to obtain information on details of the peddler, as well as information available on Siddhanth’s phone for more details on who were present at the party.

The investigation revealed that Siddhanth had performed in Bengaluru as a DJ multiple times, including thrice at the venue where he was arrested. The police have also sent notices to the venue and event organisers to collect information.

A day after getting arrested for allegedly consuming drugs during a party held in Bengaluru, Siddhanth Kapoor — son of actor Shakti Kapoor and brother of actor Shraddha Kapoor — was released on bail, along with four others, with a direction that they have to appear before the police as and when required, as reported by ANI. 

Subramanyeswara Rao, additional commissioner of police, Bengaluru (east), who is the supervising officer for the division, said all five people have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 that deal with the consumption of narcotics.

Siddhanth, who has featured in films such as Shootout At Wadala (2013), Jazbaa (2015), Haseena Parkar (2017), among others, was arrested on Monday when his medical reports confirmed his consumption of drugs. The police have shared that they raided the hotel after a tip-off. About 35 people present during the party were subjected to medical examination and five of them including Siddhanth were confirmed to have consumed drugs. In the raid, police also seized some Ecstasy pills and a packet of marijuana from the party area. The hotel has also been given a notice about the same.
