Veteran musician Bappi Lahiri poured his heart out while speaking to us on various occasions. We go down memory lane with excerpts from two interviews (done in 2016 and 2021).

On rumours around losing his voice
I am shocked to see reports stating that I’ve lost my voice. I was shooting with my grandson for a documentary. How can I be without a voice? I’ve been working in the industry for 50 years, I’ve never experienced something like that. I have slight cough. I’m taking syrups and tablets for that. It is a minor thing and I am much better.

On his maternal uncle, late Kishore Kumar
Kishore Kumar kabhi dobara nahin aayenge... Before coming to record my compositions, he’d ask me to send the tunes, which were recorded on cassettes, to his house. He’d do the riyaaz a day before coming to the studio. It wasn’t like what happens today, when singers listen to the track for the first time when they enter the studio to record. Mere maa-baap ke alawa sirf Kishore mama ka aashirwad mila mujhe. Aaj main jo bhi hun, unki wajah se hun.
