Thalaivi Review: Botched By Massive Missteps, Film Is Amma Of All Misfires

Box Office India Trade Network

THALAIVII had low opening day as it grossed around 20-25 lakhs nett on day one in the Hindi circuits without a release in the national chains. The collections were low all over some Delhi/UP and Gujarat having best contribution. The film never really had much of a chance without the bigger multiplexes as the chances of this film were less in the smaller plexes and single screens.

The all India business of the film is better at around 1.25 crore nett as the film picked up in Tamil Nadu and collected in the 80 lakh nett range. This is reasonable as the film gave competition to local film LABAAM which had more face value for Tamil Nadu than THALAIVII. Infact in some properties of Chennai the collections of THALAIVII are higher than LABAAM.

The film could not do much in Nizam/Andhra as the local film SEETIMAARR ruled the market with collections likely to come in over 4 crore nett which will be the highest opening day in India since cinemas reopened in July. This film is also a mass entertainer and will probably prove to be third successful in India after two Punjabi films.

THALAIVII will easily do its best business in Tamil Nadu as its based on a famous personality from Tamil Nadu and so probably holds more appeal in that market. The film held little appeal for North India due to South look of the film but the film could have done better in bigger multiplexes of Maharashtra and Central India but these were not in play for the film.
