FAST & FURIOUS 9 set a post pandemic record as it collected around $63 million over its three day weekend in the US and a $70 million apprx total including previews. A QUIET PLACE PART II had collected around $47 million over its three day weekend which makes FAST & FURIOUS 9 around 35% better. This is still with caps on capacity at many places in US and cinemas in Canada still shut.
The franchise in US probably has its best days behind it. So these numbers coming when the box office is not firing on all cylinders are very good and there is a slow upward trend for audiences coming back to the theatres. FAST & FURIOUS 9 will the third film to cross the $100 million mark post the pandemic after GODZILLA VS. KONG and A QUIET PLACE PART II and that $100 million weekend will soon come if things keep on this trajectory.
The film also opened to excellent results in United Kingdom as it collected £1.25 million on limited screens on Thursday and will easily set a post pandemic record. The biggest films in the UK post the pandemic are TENET at £16 million plus and PETER RABBIT 2: THE RUNAWAY at £15 million plus. PETER RABBIT 2: THE RUNAWAY should go ahead of TENET but FAST & FURIOUS 9 will probably go ahead of Peter Rabbit before it beats TENET.
