The box office in USA saw its best weekend since the pandemic started as it crossed the $50 million mark for the weekend for the first time in over a year. The cumulative box office for the weekend was $53 million with MORTAL KOMBAT and Japenese film DEMON SLAYER THE MOVIE: MUGEN TRAIN dominating the weekend.

Both these films got numbers which were towards the higher end of expectations but this is expected as general expectations are low due to the pandemic. MORTAL KOMBAT took in a weekend of $22.50 million which is the second best opening weekend after GODZILLA VS. KONG

The Japanese film grossed $19.50 million including previews which made it one of biggest openings in USA for a foreign film. POKEMON: THE FIRST MOVIE is way out on top with $31 million while POKEMON THE MOVIE 2000 is second with $19.60 million and this film will be just behind that film to take third place.

The US market is seemingly back on the mend and with bigger films lined up in the second half of the year, the numbers should be more closer to what they were before the pandemic. The conditions are getting better due to a huge vaccination drive in USA which are stabilizing the Coronavirus cases and people are coming out more. The other country with a huge vaccination drive is UK but there cinemas remain shut but here also cinemas should see good numbers when cinemas open up in mid May depending on the content obviously.

RADHE will see a UK theatre release but will probably miss out on that huge initial EId weekend as cinemas open on the Monday after Eid. But it could see some healthy numbers over the weekdays. A lot will depend on the awareness of the film created by the makers as films have not been releasing in cinemas for over a year.
