Last week, the merit list of the Bachelor of Arts, English Honours graduation course in a Kolkata College went viral after Sunny Leone’s name topped it, prompting even the actress to tweet, “See you all in college next semester!!! Hope you’re in my class.” Now, similar incidents have been reported across two other colleges in the state. While Neha Kakkar’s name appeared on the merit list of the Bachelor of Arts, Education Honours & English Honours program of Malda district’s Manikchak College, cartoon character Doraemon also made it to the admission merit list of a Siliguri college.
The issue has raised controversy in the education circle and colleges have now enlisted the help of the cyber crime department to identify the culprit. The Vice-Principal of Asutosh College, Apurba Ray, said, “This year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we did not charge an admission fee from students. Someone must have played a prank using the name of the actress and the name topped the admission merit list. We will take the necessary action.”
