Rejects Rhea’s Plea To Transfer Patna Police FIR

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered a CBI probe into the mysterious death by suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput to “ensure search for truth is undertaken by an independent investigation agency” not controlled by either Maharashtra or Bihar.

Justice Hrishikesh Roy invoked the SC’s inherent power under Article 142 of the Constitution to do complete justice in the case that has seen a bitter tug-of-war between police forces of the two states and said, “Dissemination of the real facts through unbiased investigation would certainly result in justice for the innocents, who might be the target of a vilification campaign. Equally importantly, when integrity and credibility of the investigation is discernible, the trust, faith and confidence of the common man in the judicial process will resonate. When truth meets sunshine, justice will not prevail on the living alone but after life’s fitful fever, now the departed will also sleep well. Satyameva Jayate.”

CBI must seek quarantine exemption-BMC

The city will now witness a series of visits by CBI officials as part of the probe into the Sushant Singh Rajput case but will they be quarantined?

The BMC on Wednesday said if the period of stay exceeds seven days, the officials are expected to obtain exemption ahead of their visit. If it is less than seven days, the question of quarantine does not arise. The state government, an official said, would extend complete cooperation to the CBI in the case as directed by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, senior officials said the BMC had not received any letter from the CBI seeking any exemption or intimation regarding their visit.
