Like the cinema, television and OTT production across the world, the Tamil and Telugu film industries, too, which contribute a sizeable share to the annual box office in India, are witnessing a shut down. Movies that were scheduled to release in the coming days have been deferred while shootings have been halted with actors, filmmakers and technicians choosing caution over commerce. Production will resume and movies will release when the situation returns to normalcy.
Films directly hit include Mohan Krishna Indraganti’s V, featuring Nani, Sudheer Babu, Nivetha Thomas and Aditi Rao Hydari, which was scheduled to open on March 25, and Hemanth Madhukar’s Nishabdham starring Anushka Shetty and Madhavan, have been deferred. Rana Daggubati’s trilingual jungle adventure, Kaadan (Tamil), Aranya (Telugu) and Haathi Mere Saathi (Hindi), slated release on April 2, has been postponed indefinitely.
