STREET DANCER had average collections on day one of 9.50 crore nett and it should have done better as ABCD 2 collected more a few year back. This film is a franchise of that film but another name had to be used due to IPR. So that takes a little shine of the film but that should have been compensated by the growth in business since 2015.
The film has not fared too well at the bigger multiplexes but is decent in some mass pockets. The better collections are in Mumbai and South but they should have been better here due to it being a dance film. Also, these markets are traditionally better for dance films even if we go back to 1982 when DISCO DANCER released. Mumbai and South contribution is well over 50% of the business.
North India has not done well but that was sort of expected though ABCD 2 did manage some decent collections while ABCD 1 was a dud in North. In fact, ABCD 2 is probably the only dance film in history to get some decent numbers in North. It remains to be seen what sort of growth the film can get on Saturday and considering the bigger multiplexes are low, they have potential to grow a lot but the content may not be for these big multiplexes. Sunday should be good as its Republic Day and it should get a boost but even that will probably mean an average weekend and then the fate hanging on the weekdays.
PANGA has done poor business of around 2 crore nett as it got sandwiched between STREET DANCER and TANHAJI: THE UNSUING WARRIOR. The film got a release of around 1500 screens but that is not really important when its unlikely to find an audience with a strong holdover and a more audience friendly newer release for competition. The film will need to at least double its collections on Saturday but even then, a 4 crore nett total is what the film should be doing on day one.
