The duo’s next is a female-oriented story that is set to go on the floors in August in Delhi

After playing a lawyer in Anubhav Sinha’s 2018 film Mulk, Taapsee Pannu is reuniting with the filmmaker for another sociopolitical drama, which is inspired by true-life incidents. Titled Thappad, the film will go on the floors in late August and will be shot in Delhi.

According to a source close to the development, the directoractress duo was keen on collaborating again for another “brave project”. “Anubhav had decided on casting her while they were still shooting Mulk. It’s a female-oriented subject that defies narratives typecasting women. It questions the society and will deliver a poignant message on world domination by women. Taapsee’s protagonist will be a middle-class girl,” the source informed.

Mulk, which revolves around a Muslim family trying to reclaim lost honour after their kin joins a terrorist organisation, was nominated in six categories at the recently concluded 64 th Filmfare Awards, including one for Taapsee in the Critics Best Actor in Leading Role (Female). Anubhav bagged the award for Best Original Story.

The filmmaker, who kicked off his next, the Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer investigative drama Article 15, on March 1, wrapped up the film on Monday, after which he took off to Rishikesh to put finishing touches on the Thappad script. “Anubhav is also producing the film and plans to release it on the International Women’s Day weekend in 2020. The film will feature a strong supporting cast. Readings and workshops will commence closer to the shooting date,” the source added.

Taapsee who is presently shooting for Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming production, a reallife drama, Saand Ki Aankh, in Bagpat, Uttar Pradesh with Bhumi Pednekar, will be meeting Anubhav once she is back in Mumbai. The actress also features in her Manmarziyaan filmmaker’s next directorial, a yet-untitled supernatural thriller that is scheduled to go on the floors by the year-end.
