Alia Bhatt, who returned to the city on Tuesday after wrapping up the final Bulgaria schedule of Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra, is to resume work on Abhishek Varman’s Kalank on Thursday. Before that, the 25-year-old actress is auctioning a part of her wardrobe as one of the celebrity participants in ‘Daan Utsav week’ that takes place from October 2 to 8.
As part of the initiative, Alia is putting up clothes and accessories from her personal wardrobe on sale on an online platform. “I call it ‘Mi Wardrobe is Su Wardrobe (My wardrobe is your wardrobe.) I have done it once before, at a night market, and everything was sold out in an hour. This time, it is open globally, Now that I have started Co-exist (her initiative for ecological welfare), I constantly think about how I can help the environment,” Alia told Mirror, adding that proceeds from the auction will go to The Corbett Foundation, an India-based not-for-profit organisation that works with local communities to protect wildlife.
According to Alia, her hectic schedule has left her scrambling to put it all together at the last minute, but she is determined to pull it off, given that she hates hoarding. “Even as a child, an overflowing cupboard would give me a headache. I give away clothes as fast as I purchase them,” she reveals, adding that her sartorial style is boho. “My clothes are almost always loose. You’d rarely see me in structured, fitted clothes. I’m also quite fidgety so I don’t wear too many accessories.”
One thing Alia is struggling to let go off is her time in Bulgaria. “I spent four–five months in Sofia this year, where we were shooting Brahmastra. I felt emotional while leaving Bulgaria. It’d have been difficult to get the kind of shots we did there in that time span,” she says.
While she remains tightlipped on Brahmastra co-star Ranbir Kapoor, Alia says that the year has also been special because she got to share screen space with Amitabh Bachchan in the film. Then, there’s Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt in Kalank, which also features Varun Dhawan. “Every time I am in a room with Mr Bachchan, Madhuri maám or Sanju, I feel grateful. I’ve shot a lot with Madhuri ma’am and had to pinch myself to believe it,” she says.
