With noteworthy performances in films like Sanju and Raazi, Vicky Kaushal has emerged as a talent to watch out for. The actor was also appreciated in Love Per Square Foot and Lust Stories, two projects that were backed by Ronnie Screwvala’s production house. Vicky will now be seen in the upcoming film URI, produced by RSVP, which is based on the surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). This is the first time he will be seen as the solo lead in a big-scale mainstream movie.
Talking about Vicky, Ronnie Screwvala says, “He is the most promising young talent in our country and we are delighted to present him in URI. On the two-year anniversary of the operation that fills the heart of every Indian with pride, it gives me great pleasure to announce URI, which is my passion project.” On his part, Vicky shares, “For me, URI is more than a film. When the makers brought me the script, it evoked a strong sense of patriotism and pride within me. I hope the audience feels the same after watching the film. Ronnie is a visionary producer and I hope to continue collaborating with him on many such incredible projects.”
Aditya Dhar, who has directed the film, adds, “As a first-time filmmaker, I feel lucky to have gotten this opportunity to direct a movie on one of the most important events in Indian history and for that, I will give all the credit to Ronnie, his team and the Indian Army. To have this kind of conviction for a debutant filmmaker is phenomenal. After I finished writing the script, I could only see Vicky playing this part, as I needed an actor who could give it all. He truly is one of the best actors in the current generation.”
The subject of URI revolves around the execution of the surgical strike by the Indian Army across the LoC, which proved India’s military and intelligence might to the world. Tomorrow marks the twoyear anniversary of this military operation.
URI releases on January 11, 2019.
