Karan Johar’s next production, to be directed by debutant Raj Mehta, is expected to roll by year-end

After becoming a proud parent to twins, Yash and Roohi through surrogacy in February last year, kids and their conception has become a favourite topic with Karan Johar. Mirror has learnt that his next production will be helmed by debutant director Raj Mehta who has earlier assisted Shashank Khaitan on Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and Shakun Batra on Kapoor & Sons. The fi lm apparently revolves around a married couple in Delhi, played by Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor, who are trying to have a baby.

There is another Punjabi couple in the film, played by Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani, who play a significant part in the story, helping Akshay and Kareena’s characters in becoming parents. “Though Diljit and Kiara are yet to sign on the dotted line. They have loved the story and have given a verbal nod to the project,” a source close to the development informs.

Akshay and Kareena had first collaborated on Abbas–Mustan’s 2001 suspense thriller Ajnabee and went on to do six films together. The actress also made special appearances in Rowdy Rathore and Gabbar Is Back featuring Khiladi Kumar in the lead. The film will also reunite Kareena with her Udta Punjab co-star Diljit. Kiara was a part of an anthology film in which Karan had directed a segment.

“They are all excited about the film. Raj has already started prep. The film is expected to roll towards the year-end,” adds the source.
