Late last month, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s sister Shelly Chopra Dhar kicked off work on her directorial debut, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga, in Patiala with Anil Kapoor and TV actress Madhu Malti while Sonam, Rajkummar Rao and Juhi Chawla joined in a few days later. Mirror has now learnt that Dhar is also recreating the memorable song from her brother’s 1994 fi lm 1942: A Love Story that is now her film’s title.

“Yes, we are recreating the original and we want to replicate its iconic status. It’s hard to beat the original so I will be happy if we are at par with it. However, we’ll have to wait and see who sings the new version and for whom in the film,” Dhar confirmed to Mirror while speaking from Chandigarh during a lunch break after canning a shot with Juhi and Raj.

In the film, Juhi plays a vivacious, upbeat character and is reuniting with Anil 11 years since they shared screen space in Nikkhil Advani’s romantic drama anthology, Salaam-e-Ishq. “It was lovely to see two friends come together after a long time. They are in such great shape. On set, they refuse to call each other by their real names, resorting to their characters instead,” laughed Dhar, adding that she is also kicked about having the real life father-daughter jodi of Anil and Sonam in her film.

“On their first day together, I gave the clap and called it a historical shot as it was the first time we had two big stars who are also father and daughter. Anil is a typical dad who asks us to take Sonam’s shots first; I find it endearing. We have been shooting at night and it gets nippy at times, so Sonam is constantly checking up on her father,” Dhar added.

The film also marks Anil’s second collaboration with Raj after Fanne Khan. “Raj and AK always have a common joke between them as they have recently worked on another film.”

Dhar has finished filming 40 percent of the film and will be canning the rest in Chandigarh. There has been no time to unwind as the team is on a tight schedule. “We wanted to go bowling recently but ended up eating at a Chinese place as we have been eating a lot of Punjabi and Indian food here and were craving for a change,” Dhar laughed as she proceeded to partake of a lunch comprising makke di roti and sarson da saag.
