Mirror had earlier reported (December 1) about Janhvi Kapoor’s launch vehicle Dhadak, the Hindi remake of Nagraj Manjule’s runaway Marathi hit Sairat that features Ishaan Khatter as the male lead, kicking off in Udaipur last month. Now, we have learnt that after shooting at scenic locations like Lake Pichola in the City of Lakes, and Jagat Shiromani Temple, Panna Meena Ka Kund in Jaipur, the duo is now headed to Kolkata next month.

Manjule’s Marathi original which featured debutants Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru as the romantic lead, had kicked off in Maharashtra before the lovers run off to Andhra Pradesh in the second half.

A source close to the development informs that the Rajasthan schedule of Khaitan’s Dhadak wrapped up in a month and the team was looking for another city with an old world charm for the second half.

“Kolkata has now been finalised and director Shashank Khaitan has already begun recce ahead of the schedule. Having been born in Kolkata himself, he has a special fondness for the city, and has been looking for lesser explored locations,” adds the source. Khaitan confirmed the news saying, “Yes, we are scheduled to start shooting in Kolkata. Hopefully we should wrap up the film by March as the film arrives in theatres in July.”

For now, Janhvi and Ishaan are on a break as they prep up for the next schedule with dance rehearsals and script readings to further polish up their craft.

The filmmaker had earlier told Mirror (December 1), “When you decide to adapt a film like Sairat by putting it in a different region, you cannot be complacent about the prep. We have tried to be as authentic as possible with Janhvi and Ishaan’s characters. It was a challenge to adapt the subject according to my style of storytelling.”
