You can find inspiration in the unlikeliest of places. Fortunately for Irrfan Khan, he found his muse right at home. We hear the actor’s look in his next, Qarib Qarib Singlle, has been inspired by his 17-year-old son Babil.

The Tanuja Chandra-directed romcom sees Khan play Yogi, a happy-go-lucky single man who tries his hand at online dating with hilarious results. Keeping his offbeat character in mind, Chandra and stylist Maria Tharakan were keen on crafting a quirky look for him.

Says a source close to the actor, “Since Babil harbours aspirations of turning filmmaker, he decided to join the unit of Qarib Qarib Singlle as the cinematographer’s assistant. His colourful style of dressing caught Tanuja’s eye, who thought it would go well with Irrfan’s character. So, Tanuja, the stylist and Irrfan sat together to chalk out a look similar to that of Babil. The youngster loves to wear bowler hats, and you can see Irrfan wearing them in the film too.”

Chandra says the teenager, with his “quirky way of dressing”, served as the perfect influence. “We needed Irrfan’s character, Yogi, to have an odd sense of style that would be cute and attractive at the same time. Babil has a quirky way of dressing, and inspired by that, Irrfan as well as our stylist, Maria Tharakan, put together some colourful outfits. Yogi isn’t shy of standing out in the crowd and that’s exactly what the clothes achieve.”
