After nearly 16 years, Irrfan Khan and British filmmaker Asif Kapadia will collaborate again. They last worked together on The Warrior (2001), one of Khan’s most lauded international performances. A source says that after wrapping up the schedule of his next Hollywood venture, Puzzle, Khan travelled to London to meet Kapadia.

“Over a few rounds of discussions, the filmmaker convinced Irrfan to be part of his film. It’s a period drama set in 1920s London. Irrfan will play the head of an Indian family settled in the UK,” says the insider.

The actor was apparently sold on the idea. The film’s script is currently in the works. “Asif is writing the movie himself. Since the story shifts between London and pre-Independence India, a good amount of research needs to be done. The script is likely to be ready by October and the film should roll by early next year,” says the source.

Khan is also working on filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj’s untitled next, which will see him reunite with his Piku (2015) co-star Deepika Padukone.
