After the entertainment
taxes under the GST act were revised, the government has roped in Amitabh Bachchan to be the brand ambassador of it, ahead of the reform's
implementation from July 1.
The Central Board of Excise and Customs will make the 74-year-old actor the face for GST, for which a 40-second video featuring him has already been shot and is being circulated. “GST - An initiative to create a unified national market,“ the finance ministry captioned the video.
The video sees Bachchan explaining GST as a “unifying force just like the three colours in the national flag.GST is an initiative to create 'one nation, one tax, one market'“. This comes in as the rollout of the biggest tax overhaul since independence entered its final phase. Badminton ace PV Sindhu was the ambassador earlier.
GST will be a web of taxes, regulations and border levies by subsuming an array of central and state levies including excise duty, service tax and VAT. On June 1, a delegation from the Hindi film industry, led by CBFC Chief Pahlaj Nihalani, met CM Devendra Fadnavis, who extended support in urging the Central Government to lower entertain ment taxes under the new GST act.
