Globally acclaimed Iranian
filmmaker Majid Majidi first hit headlines in India with the
announcement in early January that his upcoming film, Beyond The Clouds,
would be shot here entirely. The 58-year-old filmmaker had been in and
out of the country since 2016 on recce, for the casting and then
for the shoot. Five months later, last Saturday, the cast and crew
celebrated the filmmaker's last day on the set at Filmistan Studio with a
cake.
The last shot, a street sequence featured leading man Ishaan Khattar and Malayalam actress Malavika Mohanan who plays his sister, was taken on a set resembling a Mumbai chawl. “Everyone was emotional as their life's most cherished shoot came to an end,“ the official spokesperson of Zee Studios and Eyecandy Films told Mirror. Majidi will now dive into post-production.
During his stay here, Majidi had revealed that the inspiration behind the project was the late Indian legend, Satyajit Ray. “Filmmakers like Ray have represented India's culture, its rich heritage and the lives of common people to a global audience. These visions and images have stayed in my mind for year. That's what cajoled me to make a film in India,“ he said.
