The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC aka the Censor Board) has told director Saket Chaudhary and producer Dinesh Vijan to add a disclaimer to their film, Hindi Medium. The film, about parents (played by Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar) struggling to get their child into an English-medium school, is a dark satire. While the film is based on fact, the Censor Board wants a disclaimer stating that their film is a work of fiction and that it bears no resemblance to the real world.
Says a source from the CBFC, “We realise this is a true-life situation. Thousands of parents have to go through the financial and emotional ordeal and suffering shown in the film. But if we don’t add a disclaimer stating it’s all fictional, we may incur the wrath of educational institutions across the country claiming the film maligns them. Better safe than sorry.”
