Mirror (December 26) had earlier reported that Shabana Azmi will play the late singer-composer-actress-filmmaker Jaddanbai, yesteryear actress Nargis's mother and the maternal grandmother of Sanjay Dutt, in Nandita Das's Manto biopic, which features Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the titular role. Now, we have learnt that the 66-year-old actress has had to bow out of the project as her dates were clashing with other commitments and Ila Arun has stepped in to play the role.

“The shoot was to happen on May 3 and 4 but those dates were with another producer. Both Shabana and Nandita are really sad but Ilaji will do full justice to the part,“ informs a source close to the project.

While speaking to Mirror earlier (December 26, 2016) Nandita had said that Jaddanbai and Manto knew each other well. “He once wrote an essay on Nargis in which he spoke extensively about Jaddanbai,“ she had informed.
