Begum Jaan movie review
Box Office India Trade Network

BEGUM JAAN had a very poor first day as it grossed just 3.50 crore nett despite it being a holiday. In real terms the collections are just 2.75 crore nett or 3 crore nett at best. These collections are lower than OK JAANU, PHILLAURI and NAAM SHABABA which were also dull but they did not have holidays.

The low collections were expected as the film looked very dull and dry from the promos with the sort of content which holds little appeal for the audiences today but you expected the holiday to push the collections a little on day one but that has not really happened. Normally a holiday gives the day one figure some respectability but that is not the case here with BEGUM JAAN.

The problem here is the film is not really about growth as it was a holiday so you have to get some sort of first day in as you are not going to get the big Saturday growth that a so called content film needs. So here a 5 crore nett opening was needed which would be around 4 crore nett in real terms and then the film could have pushed to 15 crore nett weekend which would be decent but that is impossible with just 3.50 crore nett coming on Good Friday.

The budget of the film at 19 crore apprx including P & A is much lower than the likes of OK JAANU, PHILLAURI etc but with these first day collections it has little chance to cover as this type of film gets most of its recovery from theatrical with little revenue from other sources unless of course it worked theatrically.
