FAST & FURIOUS 8 had a fair second weekend of 11 crore nett. Although the drop is there the collections are still more than double of the new release NOOR. The total of the film stands at 77.50 crore nett after its second weekend and it should finish up at around 85 crore nett assuming the film manages to get a screening or two at multiplexes when BAAHUBALI 2 releases on Friday. It will leave it 12 crore nett behind its predecessor FAST & FURIOUS. The business of FAST & FURIOUS till date is as follows.
First Week - 66,47,00,000 (8 Days plus PP)
Second Weekend - 11,00,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 77,47,00,000
BEGUM JAAN had a big fall in the second weekend as collections were nearly 85% down from the previous weekend. The film is going to stay below 20 crore nett for lifetime business which is a poor result. The WORLDWIDE theatrical share will not even be 10 crore. The business of BEGUM JAAN till date is as follows.
First Week - 15,89,00,000
Second Weekend - 1,75,00,000 apprx
TOTAL - 17,64,00,000
Fast & Furious 8 collects 67.75 cr in 9 days+paid previews; Begum Jaan 15.65 cr in 8 days

FAST & FURIOUS 8 continued to lead at the box office with collections of 2.50 crore nett. This was double the business of the new Hindi release NOOR despite FAST & FURIOUS 8 being on its second Friday and that too after an extended first week. The hold is fair and it should cross 10 crore nett for its second weekend and the film will probably come out the fourth highest grossing film ever for Hollywood in India. The business of FAST & FURIOUS 8 till date is as follows.
First Week - 65,25,00,000 (8 Days plus PP)
Second Week - 2,50,00,000 (Friday)
TOTAL - 67,75,00,000
BEGUM JAAN had a huge drop on day eight with collections being down close to 90%. There is no doubting the film is a big flop but the collections do look better this week considering what has happened to NOOR which is a similar film but is not even doing half the business of BEGUM JAAN. The business of BEGUM JAAN till date is as follows.
First Week - 15,25,00,000
Second Week - 40,00,000
TOTAL - 15,65,00,000
Begum Jaan collects 15.50 cr in Week 1; Fast & Furious 8 65.25 cr

BEGUM JAAN grossed a poor 15.50 crore nett in its first week. The film took a low first day even though it was a holiday and then the growth story is never going to be there coming off a holiday. The weekend remained dull and the weekdays saw very low collections. The film does not carry much hope for the second week despite competition not really being there. This may give it an outside chance to crawl to 20 crore nett but that will be it. There is hardly any revenue coming from Overseas and with this sort of of low theatrical revenue there is not much hope with television.
FAST & FURIOUS 8 is a SUPER HIT film as it grossed 65.25 crore nett in its extended first week of eight days plus paid previews. Even if we take the seven day business it is the third highest opening week ever for Hollywood after THE JUNGLE BOOK and FAST & FURIOUS 7. The weekdays are not great but not too bad also and it could be the film could still remain the dominant film despite being in its second week as the competition is pretty weak. The film should cross 80 crore nett at least but its run will probably be cut short by one of the most awaited films ever BAAHUBALI 2.

FAST & FURIOUS 8 is a SUPER HIT while BEGUM JAAN is a huge flop. This never used to happen before the 90's. It started to happen occasionally post the 90's but now is happening quite regularly where Hollywood easily trumps the Hindi releases.
FAST & FURIOUS 8 will not reach the level of FAST & FURIOUS 7 but may still get to around 85-88 crore nett which will be around 10% lower than its predecessor while BEGUM JAAN will struggle to reach even 20 crore nett for its lifetime business. The business of BEGUM JAAN till date is as follows.
Friday - 3,50,00,000
Saturday - 3,25,00,000
Sunday - 3,75,00,000
Monday - 1,45,00,000
Tuesday - 1,30,00,000
TOTAL - 13,25,00,000
FAST & FURIOUS 8 looks to be heading towards a 68 crore nett first week. The collections of FAST & FURIOUS 8 till date are as follows.
Wednesday (Paid Previews) - 5,50,00,000
Thursday - 9,25,00,000
Friday - 11,25,00,000
Saturday - 10,00,00,000
Sunday - 11,50,00,000
Monday - 5,00,00,000
Tuesday - 4,50,00,000
TOTAL - 57,00,00,000 apprx

BEGUM JAAN had a very poor weekend with business of 10.50 crore nett and a poor trend. The trend was also always going to struggle as its hard to grow off a holiday so basically day one has to have some sort of collection. The film has collected lower than all the 1000 plus screen count films released since BADRINATH KI DULHANIA apart from MACHINE. The film had FAST & FURIOUS 8 for competition but that's not the reason for the poor collections, its the content. The budget of the film is low compared to many recent releases but the weekend leaves it no chance to cover as unless there is a miracle on Monday, the final share of the film will struggle to be even 10 crore and with such a poor theatrical result, the film just won't work on other platforms. The business of BEGUM JAAN over the first weekend is as follows.
Friday - 3,50,00,000
Saturday - 3,25,00,000
Sunday - 3,75,00,000
TOTAL - 10,50,00,000
The film joins the list of flops released in the last month or so like COMMANDO 2, PHILLAURI, MACHINE etc.
------------------------
BEGUM JAAN continued its poor run with business of 1.50 crore nett. If we factor in that it was a holiday on day one and that real value collections were probably 2.75-3 crore nett then the fall is actually 50% or less but that is still too much for a film that had such a low start. The holds are a little better in the North especially UP but nothing can alter the fate of the film unless of course Monday had been close to its Friday figure. That is the objective of every content film. BEGUM JAAN has grossed 12 crore nett in four days and will close the week at around 15.50 crore nett which is very poor and another addition to the flop list. The business of Begum Jaan over the first four days is as follows.
Friday - 3,50,00,000
Saturday - 3,25,00,000
Sunday - 3,75,00,000
Monday - 1,50,00,000
TOTAL - 12,00,00,000

BEGUM JAAN had a very poor first day as it grossed just 3.50 crore nett despite it being a holiday. In real terms the collections are just 2.75 crore nett or 3 crore nett at best. These collections are lower than OK JAANU, PHILLAURI and NAAM SHABABA which were also dull but they did not have holidays.
The low collections were expected as the film looked very dull and dry from the promos with the sort of content which holds little appeal for the audiences today but you expected the holiday to push the collections a little on day one but that has not really happened. Normally a holiday gives the day one figure some respectability but that is not the case here with BEGUM JAAN.
The problem here is the film is not really about growth as it was a holiday so you have to get some sort of first day in as you are not going to get the big Saturday growth that a so called content film needs. So here a 5 crore nett opening was needed which would be around 4 crore nett in real terms and then the film could have pushed to 15 crore nett weekend which would be decent but that is impossible with just 3.50 crore nett coming on Good Friday.
The budget of the film at 19 crore apprx including P & A is much lower than the likes of OK JAANU, PHILLAURI etc but with these first day collections it has little chance to cover as this type of film gets most of its recovery from theatrical with little revenue from other sources unless of course it worked theatrically.
