Since last November when Deepika Padukone, looking de-glam in a salwar-kurta, was spotted with internationally acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi (inset), speculations have been rife about the leading lady in his upcoming film, Beyond The Clouds. With Deepika fading out of the picture and Kanagna Ranaut's name cropping up, the rumour mills have been buzzing overtime. Now, Mirror has learnt that Malavika Mohanan, daughter of renowned cinematographer KU Mohanan, a stage artiste who has done a few films down South and a couple of ads, has bagged this coveted role. A source close to the development told Mirror, “Mr. Majidi was looking for a face that could fit the character and own it. Malavika made the cut.“

The relationship-based human drama is a beautiful story revolving around a brother-sister relationship. Known for films with `real' characters like Children of Heaven, The Color of Paradise and Baran, Majidi has experimented with new faces and even untrained talent in the past if someone fits the part. This one is no different. Besides Malavika, the film also marks the debut of Shahid Kapoor's brother, Ishaan Khatter, who began shooting for the film last month.

A spokesperson from Zee Studios and Eyecandy Films, confirmed the news, saying, “Yes, Malavika is on board to play the leading lady in the film. Mr. Majidi did a look test with her and was very happy with the results. She has started shooting in Mumbai.“
