A young director who was on the verge of casting Roy Kapur thinks it’s an error of judgement

It looks like a sorry 2017 for Aditya Roy Kapur. Not that 2016 or 2015 were any better for him. In 2014 Aditya had a big box office dud with Yash Raj Films — Daawat-e-Ishq, that sank. In 2016 he was in UTV’s big budget bonanza Fitoor, that bombed. And now he began 2017 on the wrong note with Ok Jaanu with Karan Johar that has got a lukewarm response.

A young director who was on the verge of casting Roy Kapur thinks it’s an error of judgement. “Aditya thinks he’s choosing correctly. But he’s choosing the correct banners, not the scripts. By simply opting to work with Yash Raj, UTV or Karan Johar, he can’t ensure a successful film. Only the script can do that.” Says a trade analyst, “All he has to do is to choose the right type of films. He will learn from his mistakes. But yes has to pull up his socks NOW otherwise this industry is very harsh. They will write him off after one more flop.”

Says critic Raja Sen, “I haven’t watched Ok Jaanu, but judging from everything else he’s been in, I haven’t been at all impressed in any way by Aditya Roy Kapur.”
