Apart from gearing up for her next, Kaabil, alongside Hrithik Roshan, Yami Gautam is also excited about her role in the next instalment of the Sarkar franchise. The film will mark her debut as a villain. “This is the first time I’ll be playing a grey character; I will avenge my father’s death. I am really kicked about my role,” says Yami, adding that getting to work with Amitabh Bachchan is a dream come true.

“It’s always been a dream to work with Amitabh sir. It felt surreal to be part of such an ambitious project. I got a lot of positive feedback after Ramu sir (Ram Gopal Varma; director of Sarkar) shared the first look of the characters on the social media (three months back),” says the actress.

Meanwhile, Yami, who plays a visually impaired person in Kaabil, says preparing for the character was challenging. “I used to walk around the house with my eyes blindfolded. There were times I would fall. But the exercise helped me enhance my sensory organs. I also researched on how visually impaired people lead a daily life by watching videos on the Internet,” she explains.

The actress says she was anxious to work with Hrithik. Recalling her first day of shoot, she says, “Celebrities often bump into each other at social gatherings, but that never happened in our case. The first time I met Hrithik was on the sets. I wanted to break the ice, so I told him, ‘Hi, I am nervous’, to which he replied, ‘Hi, I am also very nervous’. He may be a superstar, but he has no baggage about it. I had an amazing time working with him.”

While her last two Bollywood releases (Junooniyat and Sanam Re; both 2016) didn’t fare well at the box office, Yami is unfazed. All she cares about is exploring different characters. “I don’t have a filmi background. I have made it on my own. My attempt has always been to do something different every time,” the actress signs off.
