Cricketers aspiring to make
it in Bollywood is not new and West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is
the latest to jump on the bandwagon with Tum Bin 2. A flamboyant and
expressive cricketer, Bravo is equally known for his jigs on the
field. Currently West Indies' second highest scorer and wicket-taker in
T20s, he is also their third-highest wicket-taker in ODIs. We caught up
with him recently in Mumbai, where he opened up about his Bollywood
dream and his plans to relocate to the city. Excerpts:
What inspired you to be a part of Bollywood?
Shah Rukh Khan. He is the reason why I wanted to join the industry. I was keen on doing a Bollywood film and when I got to know that Anubhav Sinha, my director had directed SRK in Ra.One, I felt that he would be able to give me a good launch. I have met Shah Rukh many times during the IPL season and he is also now the owner of my cricket team back home. I will not say he is a close friend, but whenever we meet, we hang out like buddies. I feel he is one of the greatest actors Bollywood has and he has become my inspiration to do movies.
Do you feel you will make it in Hindi films? What do you like about the industry?
I realise that dancing and singing are big here. So, I felt I should try my luck. I have a couple of things in the pipeline. I've just done a song in a Hindi film so far; hopefully, I will also act in one soon. I feel Indian actresses are extremely talented and pretty. I've met Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif and they were just great.
There is a film on M S Dhoni which is due for release. Would you like to see it?
Dhoni is a friend and though I know a lot about his professional life, I would love to see the side of him that's not known to people.
What is the one similarity between cricket and films that you connect with?
The stardom and love that you get! Both cricketers and actors get a lot of love and stardom if they make it big in their fields. I am impressed with the way cricketers and actors are worshipped in this country .
We hear that you are a teetotaller. How do you unwind?
It's purely out of choice that I don't drink, smoke or gamble. I love to party with friends. I enjoy singing and dancing with my loved ones.
Since you spend a lot of time in India, any plans of moving to Mumbai?
That's the final plan. I want to be a part of Bollywood and so, I wish to get an Indian passport. I hope the country accepts me.
