Honey Trehan and Abhishek Chaubey have collaborated to produce Konkona Sen Sharma's debut directorial, A Death In The Gunj, which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and have its Asian premiere at the Busan Film Festival. It's expected to release in India early next year. Trehan reveals that he had approached Konkona with another script and she wondered who was producing it. On learning that he would produce it himself, she wondered why he couldn't produce her film and last October, during Talvar, gave him the script. “I loved it and asked for six months to put the project together before handing it to Abhishek who was just as gung-ho about it,“ he reveals, admitting that it wasn't easy getting funding for such an off-beat project.

The problem was solved when he ran into an old associate from iDream Productions who admitted that after a seven-year hibernation, the company wanted to get back into action but with limited funds. Trehan promised to make three films in the money they offered, but the first would be Konkona's directorial. “She wanted to make it with newcomers, I put my foot down. We approached some known names; everyone liked the script, including Om Puri and Tanuja who are working together for the first time,“ he signs off.
