Farah Khan is back on a
dance reality show, three years after Dance India Dance Super Moms in
2013. The one episode appearance on Nach Baliye 7 doesn't really count.
The ace choreographer-turned-director is on the panel of judges of
Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa in its ninth season on Colors. She will be joining
actress Jacqueline Fernandez and her filmmaker buddy, Karan Johar. Farah
was one of the judges in the first season when it aired on another
channel with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shilpa Shetty. Her last show was
the culinary special, Farah Ki Daawat, last year when she cooked up a
calorie-controlled storm with her dosts.
“I needed a break from shows and the audience needed a break from me. So I spent the year travelling, taking off on holidays every two months with my kids, Diva, Czar and Anya,“ she quips, adding that she is coming on Jhalak with a twist for the audience. “I start shooting in two-three weeks.“
Having been a part of the show since its first season, Farah has observed many changes in the format. “When I was judging it earlier it was a lot stricter about the dance forms, contestants would perform Salsa and Samba. Now the show caters a lot more to the Indian audience and the scale is much bigger,“ she points out, adding that she will be a “fun judge“ but will not praise contestants if they are bad. “But celebs aren't like common people, there are egos and fan sentiments involved, so I'll be tactful.“
Karishma Tanna is the only contestant she knows from this season as she was part of the Bigg Boss season that she has hosted. But Karan is a close friend and she's looking forward to spending time with him. “I tell Karan he has a frustrated choreographer in him. He keeps saying he won't dance because it embarrasses his mother, but any opportunity he gets, he's doing the tandav. He's the best part of the show,“ she beams.
Meanwhile, she has been talking about a second season for Farah Ki Daawat but admits that it'll take time to go on air. “The onus is on me to get celebs for each episode and that requires at least two-three months of prep,“ she reasons, adding that there's also time for her next film, a woman-centric one this time, to roll.
