BOMBAY TIMES (August 13, 2016)
Early Friday morning, social
media was abuzz with reports of Shah Rukh Khan being detained at Los
Angeles International Airport. Incidentally, this is the third time in
seven years that the actor has been stopped by US immigration officials
at the country's airports. He expressed his disappointment by tweeting
about it.
A couple of hours after his tweet, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, US Department of State, Nisha Biswal apologised to him as she posted: “Sorry for the hassle at the airport, @iamsrk - even American diplomats get pulled for extra screening!“ The actor later responded saying, “No hassle ma'am. Respect the protocol, not expecting to b above it. Appreciate ur graciousness, its just inconvenient. (sic)“
The last time Shah Rukh was detained was in April 2012, at the White Plains airport near New York for over two hours by immigration officials. Prior to that, in 2009, he was detained at the Newark Airport in New Jersey for nearly two hours. Following that incident, Khan had sought to downplay the “unfortunate procedure“ at Newark airport and had said that he would not demand an apology.
SRK is not the only Indian celebrity to have been questioned in the US. Aamir Khan was also searched at Chicago in 2002. On the other hand John Abraham was stopped in NY for having an Afghanistan visa on his passport. Neil Nitin Mukesh too was stopped in NY because authorities didn't believe he was Indian. Filmmaker Kabir Khan was reportedly detained thrice in 2008 when he travelled there for the shooting of his film, New York.

Shah Rukh Khan detained in US, Amjad Ali Khan denied UK visa
MUMBAI MIRROR (August 13, 2016)
Barely a day after Shah Rukh
Khan was detained at Los Angeles airport, it has emerged that Indian
Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan's visa application to the UK has been
rejected. The 70-year-old artiste was to perform at the Royal Festival
Hall in London next month.
Asked about the reason for the rejection of visa application, a UK High Commission Spokesperson merely said that the mission does not comment on individual cases.
The veteran
musician took to the social media, tagging Union External Affairs
Minister Sushma Swaraj, the Indian High Commission in London and the
British High Commission in Delhi, saying, “My UK visa rejected. Extremely
sad for artistes who are spreading the message of
love & peace.“
Earlier in the day, Shah Rukh Khan shared with his Twitter followers, “I fully understand and respect security with the way the world is, but to be detained at US immigration every damn time really sucks.“ The tweet invoked swift apologies from Nisha Biswal, Assistant Secretary of State in charge of South Asia and Central Asia and US ambassador to India, Richard Verma, on Twitter. The King Khan responded with, “No trouble sir, respect the protocol & not expecting to be above it. It's just a tad inconvenient. Thanks for your concern.“
